If you are looking to learn the game of pool for the first time, seeking a deeper understanding of pool, or trying to advance your skills to a higher competitive level, I am definitely someone that you will want to talk to.
I am only 28, but I have been playing pool regularly for 14 years. While getting a degree in engineering, I researched the game and delivered a report to my mechanical engineering professor on the effects of angular momentum on the linear trajectory of spheres of a uniform density on a high-resistance surface after an elastic collision. It sounds complicated (it is), but what I'm talking about is the ridiculous and sometimes jaw-dropping paths that you might have seen a ball take when there was a lot of spin on it. My job is to help you understand why and how a cue ball and object balls are manipulated by friction, momentum, and other forces of resistance. You won't have to worry about me using complex jargon on you, I have a very adaptive teaching style, and I am here to accommodate your interests. I have been coaching league players for the last 5 years and can happily provide you with references.
My course will include an assessment of your skills, followed by an outline on where we will focus your training.
Each of my sessions will include at least one warm up game with analysis and feedback on your shooting, explanations and diagrams of the chosen concepts with discussions on the various implications, drills in each concept, feedback, a cool down match, a progress report for returning students, a final review of the topics, and a practice routine for you to work on before your next session.
I am offering a $10 dollar discount on 2-hour sessions in the Garage Pool Lab on our 9ft pro-sized table. I am also willing to meet at pool halls, bars, or homes in Boulder and Longmont for any length of session, but may ask for additional travel expense.
Please email me with a short description of yourself, your availability, and areas of your game that you would like to work on. Also include a good phone number for me to contact you on.
Thanks!
Matt Kotin
I am able to provide coaching and guidance on the following subjects:
Rules of the game, body-mechanics, stance, bridge, aiming, stroke, speed control, basic spin (top-spin, back-spin, stop-shot, stun), advanced spin (side-spin, running english, throw, doubling the rail), breaking, common unnoticed fouls, psychology of competitive play, gambling, focus training, cut-shots, bank-shots, kick-shots, carom-shots, combo-shots, masse-shots, jump-shots, roll-through shots, tickys, cheating the pocket, double-kisses, break-outs, safety play, playing for position, diamond systems, strategizing based on your skillset, and advanced physics of pool.
If you have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of pool but you’re not winning as many games as you think you should, I’ve got the strategy for you that will leave your opponent banging their head against a wall.
I have been playing pool regularly for close to 20 years, and I have been playing on a competitive level for the last four. I have had a lot of fun playing with incredibly skilled players and teammates. I quickly learned how much different the game becomes when other people are counting on you to win. I have used a lot of my past experience coaching competitive sports to help me deal with the added pressure that comes with tournament play. Growing up I always played defense in soccer and water polo which directly translates into my pool game. I think very cautiously and I am usually able to lure my opponents into a trap. I have been told I am like a tarantula that sits and waits for the perfect time to strike.
I am best able to help you learn how to make well placed finesse shots and deadly defensive leaves. Whether you just want to impress your friends or break into the tournament circuit, taking a lesson with me will definitely leave you cool and confident.
My lessons start with a warm up game where I evaluate your skill level. Then, we’ll have a discussion of the specific goals that you have in mind for your training. With that established, we will begin a practice routine that I think is best suited for your needs.
I have somewhat flexible availability. Be sure to send me an email and I’ll find a time that works for you.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Andrew Sisley
